Renewable Energy Certificates (sometimes called RECs, green tags or green certificates) allow customers anywhere in the U.S. to support the generation of renewable energy by purchasing the renewable attributes of a specific quantity of renewable energy. This ensures that more renewable energy is added to the electricity grid, displacing conventional fuels, such as coal, nuclear or gas from the electricity system. Green-e^® program in which we participate certifies that the Renewable Energy Certificates we purchase meet strict environmental and consumer protection standards established by the non-profit Center for Resource Solutions. We go to great lengths to minimize waste associated with making our products, diverting more than 95% of our waste from landfill and buying enough renewable energy each year to cover our production needs.

The council awarded our Chico, California manufacturing facility with their platinum level Zero Waste certification-the highest level offered. It means a plant that manufactures Santa Cruz Organic^® products is successfully diverting 99 percent of waste from landfills, incineration and the environment.
